We pick up where we left off last time with Shoji Kawamori’s interview on creating AKB0048. In this part, the questions focus primarily on the casting process for the main voice actresses, turning toward some specific questions about the production process near the end.
If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out part one of the interview!
As a Christmas gift this year, I received from an anonymous follower on Twitter the first half of an interview with Shoji Kawamori (Macross, Escaflowne) on one of my all-time favorite anime—AKB0048. This anonymous translator, who asked that I give credit for the translation to their anonymous account @chottojolly, gave me permission to post the translation here on my blog. Aside from a few bits of proofing and very minor editing for readability done by me, the translation credit belongs entirely to them. Thank you again, chottojolly! This was a wonderful present!
And, without further adieu, here’s Shoji Kawamori on AKB0048!
The point upon which all of this hinges is: humans are not built to be idols.
Following up on last week’s post on the characters in idol anime, this week I lay out my thoughts on the Big Three Idol Anime—Love Live!, THE iDOLM@STER, and AKB0048. I had a lot of fun writing this one up, and it’s definitely up there among the posts for Aniwords that I’m most proud of. Let me know what you guys think about it! Kind of like that post about “anime that are important to you,” this is kind of a stepping stone post towards an inevitable huge post on a subject I’ve been thinking on for a while (aka AKB0048). Maybe if I write enough of these littler ones, someday I’ll actually write the big ones…

This week’s Aniwords is basically a love letter to idol anime—a favorite anime genre of mine that you’re probably aware of if you’ve been following me for any length of time (especially on Twitter, where my idol-related convulsions are more…unfiltered than they are on here). The column’s really, officially started now, which is both exciting and a little bit scary!
